How to complete Control Plan

The Control Plan translates product requirements and PFMEA controls into work that can be executed and recorded in production.

Complete the fields

Header and revision control
Record part number, part name, customer, plant, process type or phase, Control Plan number, revision, date, preparer, and approval status required by your format.
Process step
Use the same process-flow step number and name.
Characteristic and specification
State the product characteristic or process parameter, its requirement, target, tolerance, or specification source.
Method and measurement system
Identify the measurement or monitoring method, gauge, fixture, test equipment, software, or verification approach.
Sample, frequency, and responsibility
State what is checked, how many or how often, and the responsible role. Avoid “as required” unless the referenced instruction defines it.
Record and reaction plan
Identify the record and write the specific containment, segregation, notification, correction, and release/restart steps when a result is unacceptable.

Step-by-step completion sequence

  1. Start with customer requirements, process flow, PFMEA controls, and approved special-characteristic classifications.
  2. Build one row for each required control at the applicable process step.
  3. Verify every method, frequency, record, and reaction can be performed at the point of use.
  4. Review with production, quality, maintenance, and material-handling roles.
  5. Approve, train to, audit, and update the plan when risks or processes change.
PPAP control point: The customer’s current submission request, customer-specific requirements, and approved forms control. This guide explains a practical way to prepare the record; it does not authorize a substitute format or acceptance criterion.
